Dedicated softball facility for Parrswood
Thursday, 04 February 2010

At a specially convened the Captains' Meeting February 3rd, MSL agreed funds for the development of a dedicated softball facility at Parrs Wood School.

The development, partly funded by a Sport England grant of £5000 with match funding from the MSL, will see the development of a dirt softball pitch with a backstop as the first stage in establishing a permanent home for softball in Manchester. Long-term aims include floodlighting, scoreboard, spectator facilities and much more.

The initial phase of the project has to be completed by March 31st in order to qualify for Sport England funding, so it is expected that the pitch will be available for the start of this season.

Dates for 2010 season
Thursday, 08 October 2009

At the Captains' meeting held on 7th October, important dates for next season were decided and announced, as follows:

April 1st: Registration deadline for teams in Divisions 1 and 2.

April 7th: Pre-season captains' meeting; registration for teams in Division 3 and new teams.

April 20th: Start of season for Division 3.

April 21st: Start of season for Divisions 1 and 2.

As was the case this year, the season will be scheduled to last 19 weeks, ending on August 24th/25th. This gives one or two spare weeks (August 31st/September 1st and potentially September 7th/8th) to make up for rain-outs. It was agreed that a "Super Sunday" in September would be designated for all outstanding games to be played if necessary. This date will be fixed after checking tournament calendars, and will be known at the start of the season. If not needed for league games, a tournament will be arranged for this date.
